Save three quaters of a tonne - literally
Using PC Dower Down to eliminate electricity wasted by having a computer powered up when it is not needed will save 1,750 kWh of electricity a year. Using the Defra conversion factor of 0.43kgCO2/kWh, that equates to 0.75 tonnes of CO2 emissions that would be created in generating the wasted electricity.
That sounds like a lot - well it is: when you consider that a family car, such as a diesel Peugeot 407 Saloon 1.6 HDi FAP car doing 10,000 miles in a year only emits 2.2 tonnes, 0.75 tonnes represents a massive saving. 0.75 tonnes of CO2 is also the amount of emissions you would be responsible for if you took 7 return flights from London to Paris.
