The networked version, PC Power Down Network Edition, works in much the same way as the single user version but there are two main differences. First, the scheduling is set and controlled by a network administrator at a global, group or individual user level. Secondly, reactivation can also be scheduled and controlled centrally.
In a networked solution, hibernation is scheduled for shortly after the end of the normal work day. All computers would be drawing minimal electricity and all monitors, printers, scanner, speakers and USB peripherals would be switched off. Fifteen minutes before the start of the day, the computers would be reactivated causing the peripherals to power up such that when the user is ready to work, all they need to do is log in to return their workstation to the state it was before they went home at the end of the previous day.
In addition to the daily schedule of morning and evening, Open Windows can be set for each group. An Open Window would be created to allow for network administration tasks, updates, polling data, etc. The Open Window have a day, open and close time and a check box to indicate that this is to take place repeatedly or is a one off event.
