Doesn’t Windows XP do this anyway?
No, Windows XP has the facility to schedule your computer to hibernate, unfortunately it does not usually work because Windows XP will let just about any software application override the hibernate function; this could be Outlook checking for an email, an anti-virus programme checking for updates, a web page refreshing itself - just about anything. This results in the computer staying on all the time. PC Power Down is different; it ignores all other programmes and elegantly puts the computer into hibernation.
Do I lose any work when the computer is powered down?
No, PC Power Down uses the Windows XP hibernate function. This makes ‘a copy’ of your workspace to disc so when you power your computer back up, all documents and applications are open and ready to use.
What if I'm working?
If you are in the middle of something when power down is scheduled, fifteen minutes before the scheduled power down, a window will pop up on you screen alerting you to the fact that your computer will power down in fifteen minutes and starts a countdown; you have options. Accept, to acknowledge and accept the scheduled power down. If you want to work past the power down time, you can delay by using the Snooze function. You can cancel this scheduled power down completely by clicking the Cancel button. If you cancel, the system will pick up the next day's power down time from the schedule.
